As for GOTY, anything prior to 2020 is retired. Both are retired and cost a lost of money in decent condition, plus Cecile has some of the most challenging hair. I do not recommend Ivy or Cecile for first time buyers, particularly not for a child. If you want challenging curls, Caroline (retired), Ruthie (retired), Rebecca, and Courtney are your best choices. If you’re an adult and ready for more challenging hair, Addy, Melody, Nanea, Marie-Grace (retired) and maybe even Maryellen would be next. They’re less easy to find, but also easy to care for. She’s probably one of the easiest dolls to find and take care of. If you want to go that route, grab an Elizabeth. I wouldn’t get any of the best friend dolls as a first doll, as they’re all retired and cost more money. If you’re willing to get a used doll, add Kirsten, Molly, and Samantha to that, possibly Felicity too. Slightly older child? Julie, Kaya, or Josefina. Are you buying for a younger child? I’d say Kit (easy hair), a Wellie Wisher (the 14 in doll line), or a Bitty Baby. Finally, which doll would you recommend for a first time buyer and why? Buckle up! It really depends what you’re looking for.
